Who
Should Use a Phone Like This?
Anyone
interested in substantial phone bill savings. Anyone who needs
to stay in touch with family, friends or business contacts
in foreign countries.
What
These Phones Are?
- Wireless
(VOIP) phones that connect to open or password protected
Internet networks and allow you to make and receive regular
phone calls over the Internet.
- A
way to make major savings on phone bills. Calling U.S. and
most western countries typically costs about 1c (U.S.) per
minute. It does not matter where you make calls from. You
could be in Korea and call the U.S. paying the same low
amount.
- A
great way for international travelers to stay in touch.
You can setup an incoming number or multiple numbers in
countries of your choice. You could have a U.S. local number
that will ring on your internet phone regardless of your
location in the world. The cost to the calling party will
be the same as when calling any local number.
What
These Phones Are Not?
- Cell
phones. Although they look and feel like regular mobile
phones they do not connect to cellular networks.
- Phones
you can use to dial 911 emergency.
- Skype
phones. Skype uses proprietary technology whereas these
units use standard protocol called SIP. Any SIP phones and
services are made to interconnect with each other while
Skype works only with Skype gear.
The sound
quality of these units is outstanding. If the wireless connection
is stable you will get a clean sound that does not differ
from regular mobile phone sound. The actual voice compression
technology behind all this has been used for decades in long
distance connections.
Both
phones have roaming capabilities. You can setup the phone
to work with your wireless network at home and your office.
When you take phone to a new place it will automatically search
for the strongest available unprotected network to autoconnect.
For example, if you're in a coffee house with an open wireless
network the phone will detect it and autoconnect.
How
Does it All Work?
You need
to sign up for a phone service with one of hundreds of providers.
Our tutorial
explains how to setup a phone, get a free U.S. incoming number
and get going in 10 minutes!
Typically
VOIP service providers do not charge subscription fees. This
means that your money goes towards the calls and calls only.
There are no service plans, no taxes, no fees. You only pay
for the time you talk on the phone and the monthly balance
is carried over to the next month. You can even make 100%
free calls between two Internet phones bypassing the traditional
phone networks.
We have
no affiliation with these providers but we have tested them
and they work rather well: www.callwithus.com
and www.voipcheap.com.
